Favorite smoothie Add-ins

Bee pollen: Considered one of nature’s most completely nourishing foods, Bee pollen contains proteins, amino acids and vitamins including B-complex and folic acid. Studies show it helps reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides. Bee pollen has also been used to treat infertility, allergies and support weight loss.

Ground flax seed: Flax seed is concentrated Omega-3 essential fatty acids, the good type of fat that has heart-healthy effects. In addition, it’s full of fiber that helps you fuller longer and aids digestion.

Chia seeds: One ounce of chia seeds contains 11grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, 18% of the RDA of calcium, 30% manganese and magnesium and 27% phosphorus. In addition, they’re loaded with antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and have been proven to increase your stamina as much as an electrolyte sports drink.

Almond flour: A Good alternative to whey protein, almond flour contains decent amounts of protein; it’s also gluten free and low in carbs. It contains Vitamin E which is great for healing and skin care.

Acai berries: Contains antioxidants, fiber and heart-healthy fats.

Cayenne pepper: This goes well with chocolate and citrus based smoothies. Containing Vitamin C, B6 and E, potassium, manganese and flavonoids, cayenne is a powerful antioxidant. It can aid digestion, relieve migraine headaches, stimulate circulation, ease an upset stomach and support weight loss.

Goji berries: Provide high levels of antioxidants, boost the immune system, promote healthy skin, protect eye health, and help stabilize blood sugar, detoxify the liver, keep up your energy and mood and boost fertility.

Hemp seeds: Exceptionally high in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids and a great source of protein. They can help reduce the risk of heart disease which is the number one cause of death worldwide. They help relieve symptoms of PMS, menopause and aid digestion.

Vegan protein powder: There are a lot of studies and information on vegan protein powder VS whey based. I personally prefer vegan protein powder and here is why: Plant protein is easily digested by the body and doesn’t contain any dairy. Whey protein is dairy based and is known for its bloating and gas after effects. Plant protein is healthier and contains little to no sweeteners where whey protein is manufactured with artificial sweeteners. Plant protein mixes well with water because it’s a natural substance where whey protein, that’s been produced with heavy metals, does not.

The best combination of plant based proteins is brown rice and pea. Combined they supply all the amino acids found in whey. In addition, they have fiber which whey protein lacks. Studies have proven that this combination of plant proteins is equal to whey in building muscle, gaining strength and aiding in exercise recovery.

**Tip: Instead of using plain water ice cubes consider brewing medicinal teas (for example yogi brand teas) and freezing it into ice cubes. You can also do this with coconut water, almond milk etc. Just another way to get more nutrients into your smoothie!
